World of Warcraft

You may be wondering why I am writing a post about an on-line game – World of Warcraft..
Well, IMO, I don’t think gaming is just for kids. Why should they have all the fun?

I come from a generation that lived in the infancy of the computer, gaming and watching tv shows such as Star Trek. There were many nights when I and my husband were up late, programming the TI 994A with a game, so our kids could play the next day. Of course, there were many bugs, so the game would hang and the children would wait another day to perhaps play the next scene.

I studied Computer Science and Finance and professionally I was employed in different facets of the computer industry and IT. in my career I worked in fields such as the aerospace industry, scientific and medical research and small business. In my off hours I have always been very interested in crafting and handmade. I started this All Fiber Arts website many years ago, because I was concerned that AI would take over and do it all for us. We would lose the skills on how to make basic items that we need to live – spinning our wool, dyeing our cloth, knitting, weaving, crochet, in addition to cooking, growing our own food etc.

About 20 years ago we moved to live in the UK. At the time, my children were playing a new on-line game called World of Warcraft. They invited me to play as well, so they could keep in touch with me. I have continued to play WOW off and on ever since, through the different variations of the game – Classic, Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, etc.

The original Classic Era version of World of Warcraft has begun again, and I am still playing. I don’t pretend to be very good. I don’t really like to participate in the dungeons or raids and the time commitment that it takes. I prefer the challenge of the quests. I often play solo rather than joining the party groups or guilds. I like to play at my own pace.

I also really enjoy the different WOW crafts such as Leatherworking, Tailoring, Cooking, Fishing where you make your own clothing and gear. I like the achievement of finding all of the Leatherworking recipes, or Cooking recipes. In between working on my many craft projects on the go, I bounce onto Warcraft for a bit to complete another quest. Then I return to the Rya on the loom, or check on the dye vats, or stitch a bit of reindeer leather.

Twitch

I have recently discovered Twitch – where many of the on-line games are Streamed by the players, so you can log in and Follow their game play and learn new tips and tricks to improve your own game play.

I was very pleased to find that I am not the only ‘grandmother’ who plays World of Warcraft.
WowGrandma78 is one of these players. She started to play Warcraft when she was 78 and has continued since.

I started streaming in in 2020 at 78. I am now 81. I am a widow with 6 children, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. I am loving streaming and meeting so many people from all over the world. We provide a friendly and non toxic stream while I play World of Warcraft and chat.

There is also an active and growing Crafts Community on Twitch: Knitting, Crochet, Needle felting etc.
Here are links to a few of the Twitch Crafters that I have met so far.

If you would like to visit or watch some of the Twitch streams, you do not need to have a Twitch account. If there is an ongoing Chat, you are not obligated to join in the Discussion but can just watch or Lurk if you wish. It is helpful though to the Streamer to click the Follow button as it will help with their Twitch ratings and can affect how much they are able to earn while they stream.

To start I will be streaming my World of Warcraft gaming on Twitch. I am also considering starting some Makers and Crafters streaming – once I get the technology sorted out with looms, computers and cameras.

We now have faster broadband installed so I am able to stream. I will be doing a crafting stream every few days where I work on some of my projects. Nalbinding, knitting, crochet, weaving, as well as an occasional World of Warcraft game.
If you would like to keep up with what I am working on, please stop by and Subscribe. You will receive an email notice when my stream is live.
