Google Analytic Tracking

Google Analytics and Tracking I have growing concerns about website privacy and the amount of data that is collected as we browse the web. Therefore, I am removing Google Analytics from my website. I have used Google Analytics for several years on my websites as it helps me to see what topics and pages my visitors are interested in. For some time, I have had concerns about Google and their use of selling user data to outside parties. Therefore I am removing all Google analytic software from my website. It may take me a few days to find all of the source code that has been scattered on the page. Because I find some analytical data useful for a website, I am changing my software to Matomo Analytics. All data will be stored on my private server. I do not share any of this information to others. The information is anonymized at the time of the visit and is stored directly to my server log. I do not see or gather any personal data. The reports that are produced show:
  • the pages that a user has visited
  • how long they were on each page
  • the referrer (how they found my site (e.g. Google, Bing, Pinterest, Facebook etc)
  • the country the visitor is from (I do not see more location details such as city
  • Cookies and Tracking I do not store any cookies onto your browser during your visit. Cookieless Tracking The Matomo Analytics tool that I use doesn’t use cookies to track visits. It has Full GDPR compliance as data is kept safe and isn’t used for any purpose other than analytics. Affiliate Advertising I use affiliate advertising that helps to pay for some of my operating costs. The links to affiliate products send you directly to the seller website where you may make your purchase. I do not store this information on my website. The affiliates that I currently use are Amazon, EBay and Long Threads Media (publishers of Handwoven, Spinoff, Piecework magazines). Many countries have increased their Privacy Protection policies for websites and the privacy laws are becoming more restrictive in many countries. Website owners (even small ones) are required to comply or to face large fines.
