HANDWOVEN RYA RUG BACKINGS

Several years ago I used to weave Rya Rug Backings and make Rya Kits with hand-dyed wool. Then I moved to the UK – where I found it difficult to sell the rya backings etc. but still made a few. Then International laws on the selling of goods changed, making it even more difficult for the small Indie Craft person to make a living.

I am returning to Canada now – back to the Kootenays of BC. I will still continue to travel back to the UK several times a year – while planes still fly.

I miss the joy of making and designing rya rugs. Those were always my passion ever since childhood as I sat under my Mom’s friends looms, and looked up at the warp growing over my head.
