EMF RAANU TAPESTRY PROJECT
Since I have developed severe EMF sensitivities over the past few years, I have been researching how to weave fabrics and textiles that can reduce the amount of EMF I am exposed to. My house has some ‘hot spots’ along the wall that faces 3 WIFI cell towers. I have tested areas of the house using an EMF sensor (TriField EMF Meter) to identify these areas. I thought I would weave a Finnish style Raanu that I can hang over this area of the wall.
The Raanu has a doubleweave type of structure. The cloth is woven 2/2 tabby. And woven with 2 or more shuttles. Shafts 1 & 2 are raised on the first pick.
Shafts 3 & 4 are raised on the 2nd pick. This creates a double weave cloth, with one set of weft threads going over, and the 2nd set of weft threads going under.
Since there are 2 layers of yarn, I think that this will give additional EMF deflection to the cloth.
Winding the Bobbins
To weave this cloth, I am using 2 Glimakra double shuttles. I pre-wind one set of cardboard quills with hemp & conductive metal yarn. The second shuttle is pre-wound with wool & conductive metal yarn.
At the Loom
I am weaving this Raanu using 2 Glimakra double shuttles. One shuttle has single ply hemp yarn and 20% stainless steel/80% polyester yarn. The 2nd Glimakra shuttle has plant dyed fingering weight yarn and 20% stainless steel/80% polyester yarn.
